Better Communication

After you have been meditating for a little bit, you will start to see one of the most useful skills you can have develop in yourself, communication.

Everybody is trying to communicate something, whether through poems, paintings, blogs or speeches, we all have something to say. The thing is sometimes what we say or communicate does not always come out the way we wanted. When our minds are too busy and chaotic it can be difficult to find the right thing to say at the right time. The question is how can we spontaneously express ourselves and have it come out exactly the way we intend it to?

As you meditate more and more, you will start to notice unnecessary thoughts vanish, and your mind will become stable and alert. This will give you the space to just be in the moment and fully understand the situation you are in, and its needs.  Then without effort, the right words will come out, and you will know it.  When we are calm and focused, everything is suddenly possible, even speaking in front of 1000 people without any prior preparation. As a person who couldn’t face an audience without my heart racing and my mind going 100 miles an hour, I’ve come a long way in gaining self-confidence and clarity of speech.
I still remember a court presentation I did as a law student. The judges were as stern as Simon from American Idol, and my class was jam packed with people. I walked up to the podium scared witless.  Then, out of pure desperation, I decided to try a simple meditation technique. I put my attention inside, and silenced my over-active mind (all within 10 seconds). All the sudden, all the intimidation I had felt dropped away. I presented my facts, arguments and answered questions without a thought towards the pressure or all the attention that was on me. My mind became calm when I needed it most, and just like that, I scored brilliantly on my presentation without any strain or stress.
These qualities are in each and every one of us; it is only a matter of silencing all that extra stuff for just long enough so we can touch a glimmer of that true potential.
